    66 hardtop trim

Can anyone tell me the correct finish for the interior hardtop trim pieces on my 66? I have the standard black interior. The pieces I removed appear to be painted gloss black over the stainless steel.

Paint over stainless was common in 63 and maybe 64. Is it the top that actually came on the car?

Wayne, I am not sure about the heritage of the top. As I recall, the window did not have the correct date code... although I plan to replace it. The top is in the paint shop so I can't run out and check it. They want to know the correct finish for the trim - the paint is all chipped up.

Then, interior color would be correct. It is a little difficult to get paint to stick well on stainless. Use zinc chromate or epoxy primer.

According to the Ditzler (what-gets-painted-what) chart for 1965 Corvette Interior, .... Hardtop Garnish Mouldings .... are "full" gloss.

Checked my top with May '65-dated rear plastic window, and in the many locations where the interior garnish mouldings paint is chipped , I see no stainless underneath.
