    2x4 carburator Gaskets

    More on my engine rebuild project. This engine uses the correct 2x4 alum intake manifold with 2 WCFB carbs. The old setup had gaskets that were 4 distinct holes for each butterfly. The NAPA replacement gasket has the back 2 holes connected (i.e.-no center section) and the front 2 holes connected. Question, will this have and good/or bad effects on performance? or any reason not to use?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Ted;

    What is the hole arrangement of your manifold? You didn't say which year your car was, but if a 56, it may have four distinct holes under each carburetor. The 57's and later use a cross cut from one primary to an opposite corner secondary (not side to side). This was done to help a deficiency in the manifold design and pack up more volumn for two of the cylinders which inherently run lean. In actuality, the cross cuts need to be built up another 1-1/4" under each carb, but this is impractical to do on a Vette. Check some of the catalogs like Dr. Rebuild where they have good drawings of the various carb to manifold gaskets, and opt for the one with the pattern that matches your manifold. Read their description as well, of course.

      Stu, It is a 1957 and the manifold does have the crosscut you describe. Unfortunately, the new gasket does not match exactly but has the back two and the front two holes connected. My old gasket was 4 distinct holes. Thanks for the DR rebuild tips, I will look there.

        Ted;

        That's all you need to know. Get the cross cut base gaskets and you will be good to go.
