    66 Heater Blower Capaciter

I just finished pulling and replacing the original blower motor in my 66. It was making an unacceptable noise but using penetrating oil (not WD40) I eleminated the noise for now.

When re-attaching the blower I was not sure where the blower motor capacitor re-attached and did a search that indicated the capacitor is secured by one of the blower screws. I am not sure the capacitor is directly connected with one of the blower mounting screws.

First the capacitor mount is not consistent with a small screw mount as it is very wide and would require a washer in order to make a good connection. Second the mounting bracket has some unusual shapes that appear to have been made under pressure.

Based on what I saw I believe it is attached between the blower mounting flang and the heater/air box. This would account for the unusual bends in the capacitor mounting bracket as there are ridges and recesses in the blower motor mount. My guess is that it slides between the two and under one of the two screws either just right, or outboard on one of the less assessable screws. Based on the wiring and where it comes from and its routed to the positive motor post I believe it to be just outboard and under the negative electrical post.

Any thoughts or comments on my assumptions would be appreciated.

      Re: 66 Heater Blower Capicator

I do have an AIM but there is very little detail on the placement or securing of the capicator. The copy I have was purchased in 1978 and there may be a better rendition out there now. I have had the car since 1977 and do not believe the motor has been removed until now. I did not notice the capicator until I had the motor out but do know it was not secured by any of the motor mounting screws. That along with the distorted shape of the mounting bracket for the capicator leads me to believe it was secured between the heater/air box and the fan motor mount under one of the screws.

        Jerry -

The bracket goes under the blower-to-housing screw at 2 o'clock.

          Thanks John,

On my 66 air, A.I.R. roadster that would put it under the negative connector and is where I put it based on wire contour and lenght.

Also, a degree in electronics does not make one a good speller.
My apologies for the spelling of the word capacitor in the post. Let me know if there is a way to correct that for anyone looking for a similar post.

And (correct me if I'm wrong), if you start a new thread and make a mistake in the title, once you've submitted it you're "dead meat". This may also be the situation with the post "icons". Only the body of the post can be edited per the period you mention.
