    Documents I should get

I have just purchased a single owner, very low mile car. Is there anything that I should ask of the owner?

He has provided me with window sticker, service records, insurance cards, title, and much more.

I just don't want to loose contact and then 20 years later wish that I had asked for something. I know how frustrating I have been trying to find out anything about my 63.

    Thanks
    Greg

ask his permission to keep in touch each year and also ask him for anything and everything related to his owning the car, if necessary volunteer to pay for copy fees, picture duplication etc.. you get the idea

I kept in touch, which finally "paid out" in a great friendship, a beautiful vacation in their beach condo in FL (coming from Germany that was plain great!) and the original license plates of the car......

Might ask if he has the owner's pin and patch that he would have gotten for mailing in the coupon in the front of his owner's manual.

Ask for any old photos of the car. Owners usually have pictures and will let you make copies.

Possible the owner may have old license plates from the car. Yes, some people actually save that stuff.

Sounds like you got a neat car ! Enjoy it.

Have him write you a letter about the car. Sometimes re-reading old stories is the best part.

First and foremost. Get him talking about his car. Most owners will. Any and all info is not trival to you. Let him know that. You are to be the new custodian of his ride. By playing it straight and asssuring him you're not turnin this car on e-Bay. The confidence he'll have in you will put forth stories and possibly some hidden paper etc. even he may have forgotton about.
My 67 Chevelle SS396 Ragtop came from org. owner in Ohio, He brought to Colo in 74 after 2 tours in Country. A good relationship remains and plenty stories on that car. Same can apply to yours.

Take photos with original owner and yourself together, take photos copy of purchase cheque and the original owner Tile when your buying the 63

Check the JRM for that year and see if the original owner has the required material needed for Flight judging. All of the previous answers are all excellence ideas. Documentations and photo history goes a long way in NCRS.

If the car is all original BORN with engine, trans and rear end I would write something up for him as the original engine that it was sold to you from the original owner as such And have him get it notorized. You can't get any better documentation for that.

                    Greg,
You mentioned it was a low mile original car. The most important thing is to verify and document this low mileage. I would put together a write up and ask the OO to sign it. Notarized it if practical.

Just for info, this resurrected thread is over 8 years old. Greg very likely has moved on to other issues or projects.
