'54 Vette Pittman Arm and Fan Blade

Would appreciate assistance on these '54 Vette Questions:

    1) I am trying to determine if the steering pitman arm (connection from the steering box to the drag link) is the correct one for my '54. The one I have is straight - not curved like the 55-62. Is the '54 pitman arm straight?

    2) Corvette Central's catalogue says the drag link is the same from '53 to '62. It appears that on my '54, I need a drag link that is shorter than my '61 drag link. Are the '53 thru '62 drag links all the same length?

    3) My fan blade comes to within 1/8 " of the upper radiator hose. Is this correct. Not sure how I would fix this except to shave off some of the fan blade.

    Thanks
    Charles

Charles, not much help other than the third arm (bracket that bolts to front cross member) is forged and the part number is 3706023 and the # appears like it's stamped in. Don't have a separate part number for the idler arm for 53-5. In 56-7 it's 3731801 and the number is raised cast. The third arm changed 3 times in 56-7. Last change was to your '61's configuration. The pitman arm is straight, not curved. Curved is for later C1's. Drag links are the same. One end is long and the other is short. 54 also does not have the aluminum shims between the frame rails and front crossmember.

HI Charles, as for your question on fan blade clearance; I am figuring you allready checked that you do indeed have a six cylinder fan blade on it with correct thermo housing? If so, you may have a sagging hose, or incorrectly made/formed repo hose? Sometimes shorting or lengthening hose will change clearances too. I looked up info on pitman arm & looks like a streight one could be incorrect as the geometry tends to change when V-8's were introduced........Someone with more knowledge will probably chime in as I am only good from 56 up.

          Straight pitman arm is correct.

            Thank Brett.

On the drag link, the regular drag link that is used for the 56-62 is just too long for my set up (even if I screw both ends in all the way). Have you found that this drag link worked for the '54?

I'll take a measurement for you. If someone has part numbers for the linkage, it would be more helpful. To my knowledge, the linkage is the same from 53-62. The short end of the linkage goes at the top with the pitman arm.
