Grease pencil mark on top of crossmember '58

What is the number on the top of the crossmember for 4 speed trans. in '58? (RPO-685) Pg. 81 in Judging Guide says 686 for 4-speed...

What marking does it have? Are you sure it not the production number?

      Marvin,

I wasn't certain whether you had a number and was asking about it or if you want to put a number there and were asking what number to put there. If you have a number, I'd be interested in knowing what yours is.

As far as I know, it is the RPO number for your transmission. It is certainly not the body sequence number that shows on the firewall and several other spots.

BTW, maybe you use "grease pencil" in a generic sense, but these markings are with a paint stick.

I did a 59 in 1987, it had '19' on the center of the frame cross member, was a powerglide car. Also had a '25' on dash under the pad. Doubt the '19' had anything to do with the transmission configuration.

I want to know what number I put on the top of the crossmember, for a 4-speed, with my paint stick, 686 or 685? I thought it should be 685, but the judges manual says 686?

Marvin, maybe none of the above?
