    63-67 accelerator return spring diameter?

    Hi,
Does anyone know the diameter of the factory installed original accelerator return springs on the 1963-1967 small blocks and/or the 1965-1967 396-427 cars? I am seeing different diameters being supplied by the repop folks and would like to learn what is original. Does anyone have a known original of either they can give me an exact measurement of ? I have not been able to find this info in archives or judging manual.
    Thanks!

HI Bill, That's a tall order and the only way you are going to get the correct answer is if someone here has all the blueprints.
I assume you mean all engines in your answer. Some of the repro 63 to 65 FI accelerator return springs don't cut the mustard for sure.
    Good question Bill. JD

      Thanks John,
I was hoping someone might have a known original and could measure the diameter for us and post it. Yes, I was referring specifically to the sb cars but the BB's and FI units would also be good to have a spec on. I see a couple different diameters available from the repo sources. Most do not have enough " muscle" to them.
      Can anyone help?

I have the repop ones from LIC for my SB and BB. I lost no points for them in judging, but for driving, I use one of each (one inside the other) on both SB and BB to get the necessary strength to pull the throttle back firmly.

Do you want the diameter of the wire itself or of the coils? I can measure mine for you.

Accelerator return springs are a science unto themselves. Just having the dimensions isn't going to help if someone is planning on reproducing them. It will help though identify them.

Just for the record there is no such thing as a primary and secondary throttle return spring for a 57 to 65 fuel car. Various catalogs list the springs this way. This incorrect info has been going on now for 20 plus years. It's about time it is corrected as it's certainly fiction.
Refer to all the aims from 57 to 65 (as I have repeatedly) and you will see that only one spring was used for each FI unit.
If you disagree then please provide documentation.

              Jim,
I had not thought of asking for the wire diameter, the repos all seem the same in that area, but if you have an original, the wire dia. and the overall diameter would be good!
              Thanks, Bill
