    Re: Leaded Gas

Many race tracks, road and drag type, sell leaded high octane fuel. I was at a small 1/8th mile dragstrip last Sunday and they had about five octanes of gasoline AND 100% alcohol! Stuff is pricey, though. -Clark

It has been said that leaded gas makes for a dirty engine. I hear that all the time from my friend Don Baker as he makes fun of me as I absolutely love 100LL.
Yesterday Ken Lee called me and we discussed todays "wonderful" ethanol.
If Ken is looking in here will you please tell the gang what you said as to why we are having sooo much perculation problems. What is it that they removed from the fuel? JD

I spend my summers in Breezy Point, Minnesota (about 20 miles north of Brainerd). I have vintage dirt car that, for all kinds of reasons, I can't run anymore. When I brought it up here, it had about a half tank of gas. Getting north of Brainerd on the way up, I noticed a Sunoco station, right across the highway from BIR (Brainerd International Raceway). I decided it would be good to fill the old girl up so I could start it up once in a while and impress the natives. I did at over $7.00 a gallon. I guess I'm gonna have to agree with the rest of the guys who say that if you're within a couple of miles of a major race track, all bets are off as to what's available.

Bought four gallons yesterday in Milan Michigan of Sunoco 110 out of the pump. NHRA Milan Dragway is a few miles away. Price was closer to 7.65 per gallon. Smells really nice in the can. Deep blue in color, dropped in a little stable and hopefully it will last a few months.

Keith, price is always higher out there. On your way from where you are at, a short detour to the east side - Gratiot Ave will provide at least 2 places with the good stuff, 110 Sunoco at 6.49 and yes, for as much as we run these the cost is transparent. No need for $3 a bottle lead substitutes. No need for $5 or $8 a bottle octane boosters. Just pure aromatic hydrocarbons. Never a worry about detonation.
