Muncie M-21 ID Tag

My 1972 M-21 Muncie (3:70 rear) is missing the metal ID tag found on the left side cover. According to my AIM, the transmission assembly number should be 6271518 but doesn't list the two letter suffix or broadcast code. Is 6271518 the correct number and should it have a two digit suffix? In another post I saw a tag with a 'WY' after the assembly number on a 1971 M-21. Any help would be appreciated!

6271518 is the part number that should have been on the tag for your transmission application. Whether it had a suffix code and, if so, what that was, I do not know.

Thanks Joe! I contacted Darrell Shepherd at 4 speeds today and found out he has a couple of boxes of original trans tags. He searched his inventory and found one with the 6271518 assembly number. I should have it on Saturday! It does have a two letter suffix- I didn't write it down as I was traveling down the intersate when he phoned me back. I will post the suffix when I receive the tag.
