    Early 1968 Headlight Actuators

Question on early 1968 headlight actuators did the bent tube with the red dot both point towards the drivers side? Or were they just like all other 68 thru 82 1 toward the pass and 1 toward the drivers? Thanks in advance.

My 68 is a FEB build, is this considered an early car? It has working original actuators.

Jim that would be about mid production. But which way are your tubes facing and are they original to the car?

Paul, on my Jan 22 built 68 (which some folks say is early), both point to the drivers side.

I have a June 68 car with original actuators but can't confirm until Friday p.m. Will input on the thread then after verifying.

My Dec 67 car both points towards the center.

William are they original to the car? I am trying to find out about when a change in the actuators happened. Also are they the small tubes 1/4" and are they off center when compared to the notch in the actuator at the top?

I've seen a few in my business. The early ones are off center, 1/4" tubes and both point to driver side. A little later in production--I don't have exact figures yet, they went to right and left side actuators both with small tube and off center. In '69 they went to centered small tubes that pointed both right and left. Bob

                        All:
I did look at my 68, which was built in early Oct. 1967. They both point to the drivers side.

It is extremely nice to see other members with 68's and would ask all who
share this year to remember me when they share info on this particular year. 1968 was a turning year for the GM Corvette and many of the parts are quite unusual as I have come to find out - most times the hard way.

At present, I am into the locking system on the doors (all original parts). WOW, amazing, frustrating and rewarding is all I can say.
                        Thanks all....

I have original door handles on my 68, and the flap doors "stick" when coming into the fully "up" position from rubbing on the opposite side of the well. Did you have to replace yours, and if so, where can you get these? Been looking for replacement ones for years on and off, but no luck.

                            Richard:
Mine did exactly the same thing..would stick to the opposite wall before coming fully up. After pulling these out, which do not connect to anything, I found the problem to be simply the spring in the handle. It was
full of 43 years of dried gunk, oil, grease and dirt. I soaked the springs for days and reinstalled them. The handles work like new now.
