    Radiator Cap

Can someone tell me if this is a C1 or C2 cap? Is it a repro or original?

    Thanks,

    9 lbs???? HHHMMM ???

Other than that is has all the earmarks (I know bad pun) of a service replacement. Note the word "stainless" Originals in the C2 and early C3 era ( I don't know a da(* thing about C1s) were made from zinc plated steel. Also note the small ears (the key to the bad pun). Originals had larger ears so the cap could actually be removed. I think the originals were heavier -- 9 lbs seems light to me.
Those small ears make this cap ideal for vehicles with a plastic expansion tank -- no need to remove the cap to check coolant level. Those kinds of configurations starter in, I think 1973 -- but don't hold me to that.

I should have not made a reference of it being a Corvette cap because I only assumed such. Heck I don't know what it is for. It came from a Corvette restorers parts bin so I guessed maybe it was from a Vette. It sure does not look like what is on my 67.

It's a later service replacement for some passenger car with a copper/brass radiator.

The RC-12 radiator cap, aka GM #850994, was never used for a Corvette application, either C1, C2, or C3. As others have mentioned, an original RC-12 would not have been configured like this cap, so this is a replacement from about the mid-to-late 70's or later era. As a matter of fact, this cap, as configured in your photo, remains available from GM or Delco dealers to this very day.

So, what was the application? Well, the only one I can find is 1963-72 Opel. That's right, OPEL!

Just the Opel GT from the 1969 to about 1973 period. Now there's a car you hardly ever see anymore. I'll bet that parts for it are as scarce as hen's teeth but you can still get a radiator cap.
