Who makes the most accurate fiberglass reproduction body panels for C2 corvettes. Sermersheim or Corvette Image products. I have used Sermershiem products years ago on a C1 but never on a C2. I want the most accurate best quality product on the market. Has anyone used both maybe a comparison between the two?

Re: Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
It is my understanding you are going to want to try to stay with original glass or NOS if at ALL possible. I've heard a few stories about Corvette Image and paint lifting / popping down the road. On more than one vehicle and more than one bodyshop.

Re: Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
I replaced from the windshield forward with mostly Sermersheim products. It all required some tweaking. I also used an NOS rear quarter and an NOS tail light panel. It fit like a glove with all holes pre-drilled in the proper places. It took many, many months to get the Sermersheim pieces. Over the course of waiting, I found just about every piece as NOS at about the same price as the Sermersheim glass. I'm glad someone reproduces the panels but, if possible, NOS is the way to go.
Although my car has been painted less than a year, I have not had any paint problems on any of the glass.- Top

Re: Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
Thanks for all your imput!!!! I am going to check out the previous posts. I was under the impression that these new products where comparable to NOS pieces glad I found out other wise. Now my question how hard are NOS quarters and front fenders to find for a C2?- Top

Re: Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
So long as the composite will not be painted, as in the case of a tire tub, then I would recommend Corvette Image over Sermersheims as far as dimensions and general appearance is concerned.
If I ever need to buy body panels which require painting, then I would never buy anything other than NOS parts.- Top

Re: Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
Matthew,
I used Sermershiem louver panels on my 63 almost 18 years ago, Absolutely no issues. Wipe them down good with naptha and lacquer thinner and seal them with PPG Epoxy primer before your primer coat.
If you are worried about solvent popping, let the panel soak under a hot sun for a few days before the epoxy sealer coat.

Re: Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
I have used Sermersheims glass on several cars. Never more than minor tweaking, if any needed to be done. I have heard too many horror stories about Image glass.
I will let you know more in the near future. I just purchased a '72 front end in pieces to install on the garage wall '72Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
Corvette Image used to have problems but they now gel-coat all their external panels and the problems are gone. I've used several of the new pieces and have had zero problems and the fit is excellent.

Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
I may need a hood surround for my 1960 and have not had any luck finding this in NOS. Has anyone been aable to find this part ?
Would Sermersheim be the preferred vendor on this ?
I have heard that the Corvette Image hood surrounds flex more on the top of the fender than the original fiberglass ? Anybody heard that ?- Top

Re: Sermersheim or Corvette Image products
Way back in 1992, I bought a one piece, hand laid front clip for my '57. Got it from Legendary Fiberglass for $1100 and it fit like a glove. Such a deal I tell ya for a street rod, too bad they are no longer in business. PT
