This coupe was totaled in 1971. It was dark green with dark green interior, 427/435,4-speed, had headers and glass packs (not kidding). It was in Bellflower California when I bought it from JD corvette AS/IS.
It just might be that someone here owned or remembered the owner that thought the car was scrapped.
Remember in 1971 a used vette sold for under $2,000. I was the only one at the time willing to keep it alive.
I am on my 2nd restoration, this time frame up. It is an orphan as the vin & trim tag was removed because of the AS/IS or insurance co policy.
I talked to one of the employees who worked there for years and he said that's what was done then when sold like that.
Where I grew up in the So. suburbs of Chicago, tags were sold to thieves who exchanged them with the ones on stolen vette's. That could mean that this vette's tags are transplanted on another vette.
Just a shot in the dark but you never know it might have been yours or someone you knew. If you love vette's you usually owned more than one and remembered the guys that had them.
