Pure Stock Shootout at Mid-Michigan Motorplex

Yesterday I went to the Mid-Michigan Motroplex in Stanton, MI for the Pure Stock Shootout time trials. I am always amazed at the amount of hookup that the repo street tires are achieving with closely stock cars from the 60s and 70s.

COPO Camaro with all aluminum 427

COPO Camaro 11.618 and 120.64 speed on this time trial run.

This is the Pennington L88 coming off the line.

Note the front end lift with street tires.

Hope that you can read the ET of 11.557 and 120.72mph
Another very fast combination in the 11s was the 1969 Firebird with the ram air 400 engine.
I didn't go back today, so I don't know who has the most bragging rites for 2010.

    Hi Jim,
Thanks very much for the pictures and information. Some serious horsepower being used as intended.

I guess the Pure Stock is a lot different from the F.A.S.T. (factory appearing stock tire) races. Some of the Mopar guys are running low 10s in their Hemis. I bet it won't be long before a BBC is back on top in that venue.

F.A.S.T. is a lot more liberal than Pure Stock Muscle Car. Pure Stock is limited to a 0.070 overbore with all factory parts. Original exhaust manifolds, full exhaust, etc. If your car was only available with a three speed and column shift, no floor shift conversions allowed. Two years ago there was a 1958 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser with a 430 cu in tripower engine. He had to shift with three on the tree. I think that F.A.S.T. just has to be stock appearing.
