I have a 66 427/425 and when I start the engine the gauge shows a slightly increased charge for about 1 second and then falls to the neutral position on the gauge. It does not increase if you rev the engine. The initial charge rate when you start the car increases about 1/3 the amoiunt it should and only does that for 1 second. Do I have a problem with the alternator or the voltage regulator? Thanks, Jerry Nutt

Re: alternator charge rate
Sounds to me like your voltage regulator is requesting a charging situation at start up which is fulfilled then the regulator goes back to a more neutral position.
Sounds fine to me. Have you checked the voltage when you start the car?- Top

Re: alternator charge rate
Sounds good to me also. The battery is well charged.
If you want to see the needle stay to the right longer just turn your head lights on for about 5 min or so before you start. You will get a few more seconds of charge indication on your guage.
