Thanks very much for your effort in the article.
Since I've spent many years drawing, and working on drawings along with 'other' hands, I've always been amazed how CONSISTENT the 'style' is through out a given year's AIM, and even running through several year's drawings. The drawings themselves are a pleasure for me to look at, beyond the information they offer.
    Thanks Again!
    Regards,
    Alan
    Alan -

As you might imagine, there's a lot more behind those illustrations than it appears; my wife spent 25 years as a Graphic Line Artist and Technical Illustrator at GM, and did many of the drawings/illustrations for the Engine Plant A.I.M.'s.

Some of the current owners of the S.O. cars have comprehensive documentation packages, and some don't; I've seen a couple that are 2" thick in binders. Werner Meier has owned and/or restored most of them at one time or another, and did a great job documenting them.
Thanks John! 'Always appreciate your knowledge.

John, the Chevrolet Engineering Work Order system CREATED special vehicles also. In fact it directed MOST of the pilot, performance engineering section activities (race cars) and one off type vehicle builds, etc.

The S.O. system was strictly a GM Design Staff (styling) document and it created vehicles like the Mako Shark, etc and some of the early pilot vehicles that were headed to the dog and pony shows.

John, you and Art and others must remain constantly alert to thwart the threats of the "real world" and the creation of cars for people who were not "bound by the rule book" as perceived in 2010. For instance, it should NEVER, EVER, be acknowledged that the RPE in 1960, Phil Passon, under direction from Mr. Cole, allowed Curtis LeMay's '53 chassis with the '56 spare Sebring engine to enter the line and receive the blue 1960 blue body that General Lemay's daughter would drive to college. Sure, and Dave MacDonald's '63 Z0-6 was not built as a "glider". And there wasn't a notebook full of engineering work orders covering the changes made for BSC's cars in 1960.....
