C2 battery acsesspanel for A/C cars

I am doing a frame up on my 67 435/427 and in the 70's I had A/C installed at the dealer ( I was the installer) while the frame was being worked on.
The firewall and all the rest came out undetectable but when it came to the battery I modified the battery box and installed it to fit on the left side crossways, not length wise like the stock position. It actually worked fine that way except for the clutch pushrod, it was the only thing in the way, but the battery came out with out a problem. No power brakes either to get in the way.
I have the stock box in place in the correct location now and have to add the battery acsess panel to the left wheel well. I was going to order it from LIcorvette and asked if the panel came with a template as to where it go's and they said there are marks on the fender liner as to where to drill.
I have the old fender liner and new one that I installed in the 70's and can't see any indication on either part as to where a undrilled hole would be. I do see the hump molded for the panel on both pieces. the pieces are very clean and I don't see a trace of a undrilled hole.
Can I get a template or do I need the AIM?

The new battery panel should come with the holes or at least the depression were the mould was taken off the original panel. The innerfenders do not have any indication on them.

In fact, the '65 AIM (UPC C60, sheet B2) has a note to "Use panel (called filler, fender skirt) as template; cut out as dimensioned". I would imagine that it's the same for '67.

So I guess this means you lay the LIC panel on the inside ? outside ? and trace around the edge. Then scribe a cut line by measuring in from the previous panel outline [for the overlap], according to the (at least) 11 dimensions shown in the AIM. Then the washer bag bracket is located with respect to one of the upper bolt holes; again, dimensions on the AIM sheet.

        Thanks guys,
You cleared up another hump I had to get over.

          Hi Dom,

Here is a link to an interesting write up by someone who went through this same procedure on a 1965 coupe. With lots of pictures, it might be helpful:

            Dom -

The '67 Assembly Manual (section C60, sheet B3) shows the width of material to leave in place inboard of the line scribed using the access panel as a marking template.

                Hi Dom,

George has a lot of write-ups on that website, with good photos of various installations.

You might want to hang onto that piece, and label it, so it doesn't get thrown away accidentally by someone who doesn't recognize it.

Just in case you (or anyone else) might want to put it back someday. Just a thought!

                  Scott,
I saved it in my saved mail. I will have those photo's in my shop when I start cutting.
I used riv nuts on my battery box installation. I am frame off right now and it was easy. The riv nuts were almost identical to the ones used on the passenger side and are of coarse hidden by the box when installed.

                    Hi Dom,

More pictures - just recently removed the battery access panel on mine, hasn't been off since 1993 (or earlier). Looks like it had some tire rub on the battery access panel. May be some extra (non-factory) holes there, I haven't compared it to the AIM to be sure yet.

Edit: sorry about the terrible picture quality, I used a 14 mega-pixel camera for these shots, and the files are way too big to post. I re-sized them to 800 x 800 (or smaller), and they didn't turn out well. If better pictures would help, let me know and I'll email them to you.

That would be great, and I just updated the pictures in Post #10 above, the resolution seems to be improved now. Thanks,
