    1967 Radio Antenna Ground Plate

    Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if I'm missing UPC U69 B1, B2 (Antenna Installation) from my AIM or if it's one of those pages that was never available... so I need some help as to how the antenna ground plate is installed.

What holds the ground plate in place? Does it just get sandwiched between the antenna base and the nut from the top side? All help very appreciated.

      Kurt,
In the AIM items 5 and 10 are riveted together. Be sure the metal faces are clean as steel and aluminum are not fond of each other. Also the steel piece is very prone to rust and the aluminum turns into a white powder. I fabricated stainless steel pieces for both (items 5&10) and now radio reception is great.

Hey Gene, I'm having radio reception issues also. What is the purpose of the Ground plate exactly ? Grounding as it is called ? Reception ?

The radio antenna requires a ground plane for signal strength.

Metal cars have a "natural" ground plane in the body parts....

For what it's worth, I had a reception issue, no AM but FM was fine. Turned out the issue was the connection between the cable and item 6 in the diagram. Corrosion in that connection impacted AM only. Replaced the cable and item 6 and the problem was resolved.
