Re: What 14" air cleaner base is this
the 2 bumps 180 degrees apart shows it was build for a 65 and up because those are there to clear the float adjusters on the cathredal type holley float bowls, better know as center pivot float bowls, and GM first use of this carb was the 65 396 engine. the 66 HD 427 engine used a road draught tube on the drivers side and a push in breather on the passengers side so it would need no other holes in the air cleaner base.- Top

Clem,
The 66 427-425 HP (per AIM) used the PCV set us as per the L36.
The L88, again per AIM, used a plug in the air cleaner base and some sort of cap in the pass side valve cover.
That is why the mistery - there are no holes in this one...- Top

a lot of this stuff was sold over the counter back in the day so it could be one of those. the cold air intake thru the windshield plenum used a dropped base air cleaner and this was also a over the counter item never used on a production car.- Top

Re: What 14" air cleaner base is this
I don't think there was ANY Corvette that used this configuration air cleaner base. 1967 L-88 used a road draft tube type breather but it did not use the pictured base. I don't know of any Corvette small block that used an open element air cleaner that did not have a crankcase breather tube on the air cleaner base.
It could well be that this is actually an aftermarket piece or it could be an AC air cleaner for some non-Corvette application. In that case, it might not even be a Chevrolet application. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
