Today many of the early non-saleable units have VINS that end in "EX" so they can never ever be sold to the public

        Re: Pilot Car

I have the fuel injection short block for 1963 Vin # 0022. It is stamped 3100022 F0618RF= Flint plant, Monday June 18, 1962, fuel injection. The E102 cast date is Thursday May 10, 1962 .Has 6 qt oil pan, camshaft, front cover.

Franz Estereicher has history on many of the 63 Pilot line cars. #003 thru #023. There are a few holes, but every year something new appears, or re-appears. This engine was discoverd in Detroit in 1987.

And car #0022 was reported to me as a Daytona Blue / blue convert in the Boston area, but it has not been confirmed. I would love to offer this engine to the original car owner for reasonable $$ if he will come forward.

Owners of 0021 and 0023 have both shown interest, which I am considering, but would rather find the original car.

I think 1988 produced more Pilot, Prototype, and engineering cars than any other year in GMs corporate history.

Blue car is 1988 ZR-1 prototype (EX5014) the purple is a 1989 ZR-1 pilot car Vin 94,used a press car for several years repainted Purple for California show ckt and sold at BJ several years ago with a MSO and car is registered in Ariz owned by Eric Jackson who also has 89 Pilot # 4 that I found in south Florida 5 years ago,

He still had it as of the end of June, 2010 when I saw it at the CCC-UK Nationals.
Looks nice with some original markings still on it.

Plus, Brit member, Chris Howard, has 1963 SN 23. This was a SPECIAL pilot car built under Shop Order # 10271 and shipped to England for the London Motor Show. There's absolutely NOTHING that's factory/production on this car as it was hand built in Detroit using a myraid of prototype parts...

Tyler it's #074 and was sold on it's MSO.. and per Dave McLellan was 100% Fed. certified . They had to be to show them in France. You will note in the old France press pictures all of the 89s there (VINs #50 to #68) had regular Michigan license plates. Now #004 was the Advertiising/Brochure Pilot sold on a Salvage Title. Now "Restored" Salvage. #004 was produced in 3/88 over a year before #074 was. Now my Saturn Powertrain pilot looks completely different than any other Saturn (it's a Lola T9090 race car with a pilot Saturn 1.9L powerplant) They used it for durability tests on the engine.
