    Ronald,

The weights could also have a wear mark in them from use and this makes the last bit of advance sticky until RPM goes up and centrifugal motion forces them to move the weight base further.

I encountered this on my brothers L-79 distributor and the advance seemed to move to the last bit of advance after spining fast on the distributor machine.

Some centrifugal curves are non-linear. The L-79 maximum is 30 @ 5000, but the last few degrees come in very slowly at high revs.

      That's the way they're designed.

        Tim,
Probably not visible in the low rez photo above, but the wear I see is lack of oxidation, you can't feel the difference. Given that with all the originality present on this car, I can pretty much tell you that in the last 35 years, this car accumulated about 10,000 miles and I really doubt saw engine rev's over 3000 rpm. In the early to mid 70's - another thing. So what I am saying is perhaps we get beyond the polished area and then it gets sticky, or the di-electric grease was the source of sticky. I did shoot a bit of wd40 in this area as an interim too.

I did get the weakest springs in and out for a low speed run - I think I like those mid springs best for how strong it pulls to 4500rpm. With the weak springs, I can feel the low end is stronger too so hard to say. Fun tinkering, better running.
