    Help IDing 3959512 F 4 4 CE stamped block

I'm trying to help a friend ID a bunch of parts and a few engines to put a value to the stuff, and I came across a 3959512 engine with a F 4 4 cast date and a CE4N39210 stamp. Now the casting number shows as a 62-63 327 250hp, but the casting date is F 4 4, and correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the CE program only get put into use in 1968? So I'm not really sure what it is. It's still assembled, 2bbl intake, old steel "Chevrolet" script valve covers. Any idea of a realistic value for such an engine?

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Steve

The GM #3959512 was a SERVICE-only, 4" bore small block. I think most were 327 cid displacement. The engine has no value whatsoever for restoration purposes. It's basically worth what any old used, run-of-the-mill 327 is worth.

In the case of this engine, the "F 4 4" casting date represents June 4, 1974. The "CE4" stamping confirms the year as 1974.

Joe, would they still have been using forged cranks in these engines?

      Thanks,
      Steve

I expect that they would have. I don't know that GM ever manufactured a small journal 327 crank that was anything but forged steel.
