    '62 Hood Support Bolts

What are the hood support bolts that go into the hood? I'm satisfied that the ones that go into the fender are clutch head.

The JG (p. 74) says that they are normally "dished hex-head bolts and lock washers." The AIM designates them "9409107 screw & L.W. assy." The AIM designation leads me to believe that the lock washer is captured on the screw.

Paragon sells 4 clutch head bolts. Corvette Central and Zip sell 2 clutch head bolts and regular hex head bolts.

From the AIM and from my memory, I believe that the bolts that go into the fender are clutch heads and he ones that go into the hood are different. I just can't figure out if they are dished and if they have a captured lock washer.

(And if they are dished and have a captured lock washer, who sells them?)

Christopher - I suggest you email the 1961 - 1962 National Team Leader, Dave Heitzman. I am certain he will give you a correct answer to your question.

Here is what is on my car. However according to my notes I bought the fastener kit 7042K from Paragon.

However their current picture does not match what I have on my car? Perhaps I used my original hood bolts.

Chris - I am pretty sure the clutch head bolts are used in the fender and hex bolts are used in the hood. I don't think the hex bolts have a captured washer. Bob Baird and Tom Howey's 's book shows recessed hex bolts used in the hood with a head marking showing an "E" inside two concentric circles and says they MAY have been used.

My 62 which is relatively untouched under the hood has clutch head bolts with flat washers at the fender end of the hood support and it has recessed head hex bolts with captive lock washers going into the hood. The hex head bolts have multiple concentric circles and a "U" in the recessed heads. Jerry

That is what I have but the picture on the web does not show that. The recessed head also has the built in washer.

              Chris H.--
The input you received from Jerry and Mike is right on. The e bolts you have with the small dot are incorrect.
