I have a '66 427/425 car without the original engine. The car was built in mid-February 1966. I am looking for engine and aluminum manifold casting dates that would have been original to this car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Need help with engine and aluminum manifold casting dates
Here's all the numbers I've collected so far off my L72 (427/425) engine (my car's birthday is May 24, 1966):
Block Casting Number: 3869942 Cast Date: B46 (February 4, 1966)
Block Assembly Code: T0516IP (May 16)
Intake Casting Number: 3885069 Cast Date: 4-8-66
Exh. Manifold Casting # (Left): 3880827 Cast Date: B236 Feb 23, 1966
Exh. Manifold Casting # (Right): 3880828 Cast Date: A286 Jan 28, 1966
Carb. #: GM 3886101 Holley 3247 Date: 651 (1st week of May 1966)
Distributor Number: 1111093 Date: 6D4 (April 4, 1966)
Starter Number: 1107365 Date: 6E16 (May 16, 1966)
Water Pump Number: 3856284 Date: C246 (March 24, 1966)
In a nutshell, I would recommended staying within the NCRS six month rule. In other words, all date coded parts should have a date up to six months prior to the car's birthday. And definitely not after the birthday!

Re: Need help with engine and aluminum manifold casting dates
Dave, I'd reccomend that you find a couple data points, cars w/ 427/425 HP built the week yours was; known survivor, originals. There was a huge variation in when these parts were cast & subsequently assembled at Tonawanda.- Top

Re: Need help with engine and aluminum manifold casting dates
You're welcome! I should have mentioned that the intake manifold date is on the bottom, so not visible once installed. But most NCRS types want the right date codes regardless!
Good luck and may the force be with you in your search,
