I had a brown wire hanging down near the ignition switch on my '66 L79 coupe. I found the capacitor that plugs into it and put it on, but the capacitor has a strap/attachment and I can't see where that attaches. Any ideas where the strap is screwed into the area under the dash? Thanks for any ideas. And another thing, there seems to be about 2 dozen capacitors on this car all over the place, why so many?

Re: Capacitor near ignition switch
If I remember right it is mounted near the very bottom of the dash to the sheet metal just above the bottom edge of the casting. I believe the capacitors are for radio interference because of the glass body of the car.
I will be going out to the shop this evening and will try to get my camera in there and get you a picture.- Top

Re: Capacitor near ignition switch
Thanks very much, a picture would help alot. Just think all the capacitors seem like overkill. The '64 Dodge I restored had very few, guess maybe the fiberglass makes the difference.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Capacitor near ignition switch
Mike,
See if you have an 'oxidation shadow' where these were bolted. This is the spot, issue with my car is - no shadow, cap was hanging, could have been early in its life, but still no evidence it was ever screwed down. FWIW.- Top

Re: Capacitor near ignition switch
Thanks for the tip. I don't see an obvious shadow either. But think the best thing to do is secure it as in Peter's picture.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top
