    Tire tub repair - 66

I pulled the tire tub off of my 66 to get to and noticed the lip was cracked on the tub itself = not being a fiberglass expert - is there a way to make the repair and get the original black molded look??

    Thanks

    Ken,

I will have to look it up but there was a good article in the Restorer (maybe in 08 or 09 issues) on how to repair the lip of the tire tub.

Essentially you would make a mold of a good section of your tub and then transfer the mold to the damaged area. Using fiberglass strands and tinting the resin black ( i think that was part of the process) you make the repair using the new mold as your form. I am skipping many steps but you get the idea. The result in the article was impressive.
I will look tonight; maybe someone can point you in the right direction sooner though.

Scott Sinclair from Canada has a very good process to make the repairs. He is in the Driveline under services. He has a heater box of mine and also does stud repair work. Very knowledgable guy and great to work with... Jeff

        Agree.

Scott did my 1967 tub a few years back and did an excellent job. Highly recommended.

EDIT: I believe that Scott also wrote the Restorer Article that Pat mentioned above.

I found the article if you are interested in looking in a back issue and tackling the job yourself,
          Restorer Summer 09, Vol 36, Num 1.
Dave Kitch and Barry Holmes did a great job documenting the process.

Thanks for all of the help - I am going to try to go it alone based on the articles - I will take some before and after pictures and we will see.

I found black resin at Corvette Image. They are located in Oregon.
