I was rather disappointed by the lack of meets my local chapter does, only 6 per year. I just joined anyway but my first one isn't scehduled until November! I thought once a month for a car club sucked lol.

By not belonging to a local chapter, you have missed one of the best benefits of belonging to NCRS. Fellowship, lots of events to get together, etc. Join and enjoy.

I would love to belong to and participate in a local chapter. It's just that Pensacola, FLA. is not convenient to any of them. I think the Louisiana chapter is the closest.

but I have a really great driver that I don't know how it will fit in with a legion of top flight vehicles. If I knew the emphasis was not on "who has the best original car" it would be easier to join. Any thoughts appreciated...

No chapter I have been associated with has a 'best car' attitude- far from it. The true enthusiasts get out and drive them. That's why I remain a member.

Thanks for the comments, I'll be joining the local chapter. Unlike any other car I've had, this particular vehicle has always had an aura around it and it will be interesting to gain insights from others while I bring it up to snuff.
