LS4 air dam extension

Beginning in January 1973, the factory began installing a 3 5/16" high extension onto the air deflector to aid in cooling big block cars with AC. Does anyone know where to get one? Dr Rebuild used to have them, but they're discontinued.

If the Doc doesn't have a part like this, that portends a real availability problem as he's the Number 1 source for something like this. However, you might want to check the other major suppliers like Corvette Central and Paragon.

The part you seek was GM #336176 and it was discontinued without supercession in August, 1985. It was only used for 2 model years, L1973-74, and only for LS4 with C-60. So, that does not imply a market that's going to make a lot of reproduction manufacturing sources jump at the chance to do this piece. Still, I don't think it would be a really difficult part to reproduce.

I had about 5-10 of the extensions that I carried from swapmeet to swapmeet years ago and could not sell a darned one. I think I finally sold them for maybe a $1.00-$1.50 each

My friend, who is also seeking one for his 73 LS4, had a GM dealer do a nationwide search to see if any dealer still had one collecting dust. Not a one!

Sorry, Bill. I haven't heard of any way to get one. I was fortunate on my car with a build date of Sept. 12, 1972 and VIN # 2051 that I only looked into the matter for a very short time before finding out that my car didn't come with one even though I have the LS4 and C60 options.

I'll keep my eyes open.

Having been discontinued 25 years ago and considering the liklihood that this is not the sort of piece that any GM dealer would normally have stocked (even during a time when dealers actually stocked a lot of parts), I'd say the chances of finding one of these in dealer stock would be about as great as the people in hell getting a glass of icewater.
