We took the 67 to a show yesterday and I found when I tried switching the radio selection bar to FM nothing happened, the bar would move up and down but it stayed on the AM "window" and wouldn't switch over to FM. This morning I started taking the radio out. I took off both knobs and front nuts holding each on, along with the passenger side cover and side nut. After having the radio "loose" before I took it out I thought I would try the tab again and it worked, the bar switched over to the FM stations. HOWEVER all I could get was static no stations. I can still get AM okay but not FM. I disconnected the antenna from the back of the radio and the only thing that happened was my AM quit working (so I'm assuming the antenna is ok. I had the radio restored by a reputable shop about 18 months ago but wanted to try troubleshooting before I shipped it back. Any ideas, thoughts??

Re: FM radio quit working
Sounds like some of the linkage controlling the mechanical switch for AM/FM may have come loose or apart. I'd pull the radio and inspect the linkage located behind the faceplate. Maybe you can save a shipment.
I assume the radio worked ok on both AM and FM prior to this problem.

Thanks, I will pull it back out and check the switch/selector bar to see if something is loose. After I disconnected the radio and the slide worked correctly I just assumed (NOT wise to do, I know) everything was in working order. I was happy, at that point anyway, that I didn't have to take the radio completely out. Anyone that has taken the radio out remembers how much fun it is to maneuver around to get in or out. But now it looks like I may have to since the FM didn't work after it was reconnected. Another question I had, I just assumed (again) the antennae was working correctly since the AM stations worked when antennae was plugged it but they didn't when it was unplugged. I've read other threads suggesting to buy a cheap aftermarket antenna to see if it fixed the problem but I don't know if that is something I need to do or not since the AM is working. I've never really gotten into the technology of radios or taken any Radio 101 classes but on most of the boom boxes I've had it didn't seem to matter if antenna was even raised for the AM stations to come in, but you did need it for the FM. It seems to work just the opposite on my car radio, or am I completely off base?- Top

I'd recommend sending personal data like your email address via either this web's email or private email service. When you hang it out in public for all to see, you make yourself the target of identity 'harvesting' software that's out there working the web on a daily basis...- Top

Re: FM radio quit working
They don't have to "hang out" here. Their 'bots search web sites for the "at" symbol and other tel tale info. They can automatically do what computers do best -- crunch data looking for the hexadecimal symbols. Give them no reason to look here or they will come back again and again.Terry- Top

Re: FM radio quit working
You are correct Henry. Ampitude modulation is a ground wave signal and Frequency modulation is a line of sight signal and needs an antenna. AM also needs it but not quite as important depending on how close you are too the transmitter. I'm guessing you have a technical issue that will need to be looked at by your radio tech.- Top
