C1 Windshield post tabs and rechroming

I've had my windshield post tabs repaired and want to send them out to have them rechromed.

My question is do I remove the new machined tabs and screws and only send the windshield posts? The receiver area in the pot metal post is machined fairly close tolerances for the replacement tabs, so I am concerned about the plating materials flowing into this machined out area and not being able to get the tabs back in correctly.

I am sending to Paul's plating and called and spoke to a lady that said I sould remove the tabs before sending.

If you have done this, please let me know what you did and how it worked out.

    Thanks,
    Don

yes remove the tabs and screws, the plating shop will shove in some plastic caps to protect the treads,

      Doug,

I am not worried about the screw threads. My concern is with the areas on the bottom of the post that was milled out for the replacement tab to fit into. It fits pretty tight now.

      Thanks,

        Don,

When I had my post chromed after repairing the tabs, I left them on and had all of it chromed.

        Regards,

        Dennis

          Dennis,

Who did the replating on your windshield posts and where you happy with the results?

I have checked a couple of places and from this forum seem's everyone who uses Paul's say that is the best. I had by tail light pot metal pieces done by someone else who did an OK job.

            Don,

At the time my post were chromed, I was using a vendor who has been menchioned numerous times on this board. While the work was good, he was very slow. He had my parts for over 2 years.

Ever since I have been using Paul's and have been extremely satisified. I would not hesitate to send him the posts with the replaced tabs installed. I would be concerned with the tabs not fitting after chroming if they are left out.

Leave the tabs and screws in place and run some bolts in the other 2 holes.
If you remove the tabs they will not go back on due to the very tight tolerence on the machining job. Corvette Central did mine.

I was told to leave my tabs on when I had my posts plated.
