67 Front Windlace Staples -AGAIN HELP

I just got my second AL 67 original front windlace in the mail. This piece is nicely finished on the ends with stitching as it should be but BOTH sides of the vinyl are glued to cardboard backing (again) making the only way to tack it down stapling through the vinyl with exposed staples. According to everyone before, the staples should be hidden - stapling through center cardboard and the underside of one side of the vinyl and then the top piece of vinyl lays over the staples covering them!

Please confirm that on original cars the front windlace was stapled through the cardboard and lower vinyl with the top vinyl covering the staples rather than through the whole windlace piece with staples exposed. Thanks.

That is correct. No staples showing.

We need to tell AL that so they can leave one side of the windlace unglued so that we can staple through that and then cover the staples. I ended up spliting the cardboard center down the middle and stapling through the back half and then re-gluing the cardboard back together.

Cudos to AL for sending the windlace already folded and stitched on the ends like an original. It looked very good.

I found some of the original vinyl and proper windlace cord to make some of these. What I don't have is the cardboard and I don't know exactly how to construct the windlace as well. Also don't have a way to sew the ends. Best bet seems to be AL's windlace if we can just get them to leave the one side un-glued.

There is no cardboard on the original. The weatherstrip is common door weatherstrip that has a woven flange on it. This can still be found in hardware stores, however the material is just a little different now.
