Robert, Nice pic you put up but not the pic I was hoping. Base plate is too late.
Need a pic of an early 63 baseplate with the snowflake next to casting number.
Biff Coffin got dinged at a show because his early 63 had/has a baseplate just like your nice pic. Thanx, JD

Sept 20 1962 isn't early enough for you?

You may need to post a pic from your baseplate collection

This is about as early as you can get. Here's a really early 63 with the Winters in the middle from April 24, 1962.

I have a baseplate dated 9-20-62. Winters is in the front. This is in line with John's 9-19 date. -Dan-

Michael, Would very much appreciate if you could take a pic of the front of he baseplate. I am curious to see the configuration of the water pump bypass fitting boss. Now on the other hand maybe yours has no provision for that at all.
Your prototype 63 baseplate is most likely the rarest fuel injection baseplate/intake from any model of 57 to 65.

Next year makes 50 years I have been playing with fuel injections. I have only ever seen two of these parts. One that was on #3 that I used to own and one at Corvette Carlisle.

Notice the provision for the 57 to 62 FI coil mounting bracket.
No Michael this is one of the neatest 63 fuel injection parts I have ever seen.

The 1st few prototype 63 base plate had no provision for the by pass fitting.
The 2nd batch of them had a crude boss welded for this fitting.
If yours does not have the bypass fitting boss then it's the 1st one I have ever seen. Thanks, John

                Hi John,

As I recall, the baseplate has a boss welded on for the bypass. I'll take a pic of the front as soon as I can get over to my garage.

                    John,

Are these machined areas on the rear of the plenum the ones you referred to in your earlier post (please ignore the scratches) ? Does anyone know when (car # or date) this machining stopped?

                    Thanks

Michael, That's the problem with installing the distributor cover/shield. It does sooo much damage. Your plenum would take a powerful amount of sanding to remove all the evidence.
You didn't ask but if that's the plenum for your 63 FI you need to replace the distributor vac advance tube (aka spark tube) clip with a wire type.
As far as when they stopped machining the bosses off the rear of the plenums the answer is the end of 65 FI production.
All diecast plenums had front and rear "bosses" on them to help pour the mold. Reportedly the early 63 die cast plenums had the bosses crudely removed for a radio car but apparantely that isn't so. Maybe someone else will chirp in for a better answer on the early 63 recessed nozzle block boss plenum.
Just remembered a pal has an early 63. WIll have to check the plenum to see how the rear bosses are deleted. machining or hack saw or bubba. JD

Thanks John, that's unit #1567, from one of my 63's. That plenum looks different from units 1925 and 2340, which don't have any obvious machining marks (or scratches, for that matter). They must have changed the manufacturing process somehow in the 300+ units between #1567 and #1925.

John, If you get a chance, could you post a pic of the "wire" retaining clip? The guy who restored this unit in the 80's (initials JD) must've liked the sheet metal kind back then.

                              Thanks,
