How was the shipping weight for the Corvette determined? Was each car weighed before it left the factory or did they have a guideline that they used for the options that were being put on the car, or did the shipper weigh each car?

...base vehicle weight plus weight of options (listed in AMA specs), fluids to capacity except gasoline, which was 3 gallons at about six pounds per gallon.

"Curb weight" is as above except for fuel to capacity, so the difference is about 17 gallons (for a C2) or a little over 100 pounds.

The shipping weight for the AMA specs was determined by Engineering based on weighing prototype and pre-production cars, with known deltas for option combinations. Cars weren't weighed at the plant or by the shippers.

I was just wondering how they did that and how they figured small blocks from big blocks, coupe from convertibles, and loaded cars with a lot of options and plain Jane cars.
