C1 Windshield washer not functioning properly

When I press the center button on my windshield wiper knob, the windshield washer is supposed to start pumping water/solution onto the windshield and the wipers are supposed start cycling. When I press the button nothing happens until I turn off the engine and then after a few seconds the windshield washer pump does pump fluid onto the windshield. What should I do to restore correct operation? The system worked fine last year now it doesn't.

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak in the system, check the hoses and connections.

How does one check for vacuum leaks? I have all new hoses and the system worked well last year. I don't think I have any hose or connection leaks. What else could be wrong? The fact that the pump works to pump fluid onto the windshield after the engine is shut off means the pump is working, right? Could it be that the wiper motor coordinator is not working? How would I be able to check this function? Could the valve in the dash attached to the push button be broken?

It could be the gasket in the Dash switch has dried out.

If you can suck air through the dash control without pressing the button then the control is not working correctly. The control is working when you press the dash control you can suck air through the control when the button is released you should not be able to suck air through the control. If that is not the problem then it is with the washer pump. Also, make sure you did not cross the two 1/8 vaccum lines at the pump. Jay

OK, after some contortions, I was able to put my lips around the switch on the dash and was able to suck air. So how do I obtain and install a new gasket such that I won't then be able to suck air through the control knob?

So, do I purchase a new windshield washer control know kit from Paragon that contains new gaskets/seals. Or can I somehow repair the seals in the knob assembly?

After much investigation the problem turned out to be debris in the reservoir had plugged the washer pump inlet. After taking apart the pump, cleaning it, reasssemling it, and installing into the car, the windshield washer and coordinator system work perfectly. There was no vacuum leak.
