    58 loose steering

I have some play in the steering, kind of floating when steering side to side and not real responsive left to right, can worn ball joints cause this besides adjustments to the steering gear? Thanks, Brad.

there are no ball joints on a c-1. could be tie rod ends but more than likely the worm and sector are worn/damaged due to previous owner installed reversed rims and one or two curbing episodes. you might try adjusting the steering box(worm and sector). use the shop manual for instructions. good luck, mike

      Brad -

C1's don't have ball joints - they have kingpins, and a complex steering linkage arrangement with lots of wear points if they aren't lubricated religiously. Points to be inspected (in addition to the steering gear) include both ends of the drag link that connects the pitman arm to the third arm, the third arm bearing, all the tie rod ends, the upper and lower A-arm bushings, and the kingpins. All are described in detail in the ST-12.
