    65 Hood Hinges

I'm detailing the hood hinges on my '65. According to the JM, the hinges are in place during body paint and blackout. Thus I assume the correct hinge color should be the blackout color on the hood and all bolts should be painted the same color - correct? I've seen some what appear to be high point cars in which the hinges were painted but the bolts were natural which would not make sense. Also, were the hinges actually completely painted or would the edges not exposed directly to blackout spray be natural?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Dave -

The hinges will show varying levels/coverage of primer, body color, and blackout (including the bolts).

You understand correctly. The hood hinges were installed when the car was painted AND blacked out. Exterior color coverage + blackout over the paint varied with the aggressiveness of the painter(s). Most cars on the judging field are seen with the hood hinge hardware FULLY blacked out...

Here are 2 great pictures, one posted by M Hanson and the other I don't remember who posted it. When restoring their cars most guys do the hood black out with the hood off the car. But the most correct way is to do it with hood on.
