    Carlisle steering box seminar

I wanted to thank Gary Ramadei for his efforts in providing a very good tutorial on rebuilding C2/3 steering boxes on Fri. There was a very good turnout.

    Thanks Gary

I would have very much wanted to attend that, but couldn't make the show. What was discussed as the easiest way to get the adjustment correct on a mid year box?

I've just cleaned and replace the grease on mine and have it adjusted so that I can barely turn the shaft with my fingers over the center point.

Gary has some excellent write-ups on the digital corvettes forum, here is a link to the steering box segment....

          Happy reading!

            Hi Guys
Thanks for the kind words. I enjoyed the seminar and meeting everyone, although I have to say I may not remember the name of everyone I met over the 3 days there. The weather was great this year.

As for the steering box seminar the one thing I was unsure of was the fixed mic and trying to work around it. The feedback I got from guys stopping by my spot later was positive and it seems I was able to offer some insight into checking or overhauling the C2 & C3 boxes. The secret is out now, there is no special formulation of grease needed! Just good quality grease like the ones I mentioned.

If Lance would like to continue with seminars for the C2 &C3's I have a couple of thoughts for next year including posi tuning vs stock posi building. We'll see. What are your thoughts? Might be tough to get a surface grinder setup though!

              Gary,

I also want to thank you and express my appreciation for the time you took to present the information. It takes time to put all of this together and in a presentation format - you were successful. I especially liked the way you presented the hands-on approach as it relates to the values with the torque wrench and basing that on your experience - very nicely done. I would be very interested in listening to more of your presentations (C2 related.......!!). How about something in the area of differential rebuilds, leaf spring repairs/restoration, wheel bearing replacements and a discussion of the pre-load, etc. Just some ideas..........

              Thank again,

              Bob

I would like to see all of this as well but it would probably take 3 solid days of seminars or 10 yrs at one hour each yr.

The amount of prep work to cover all these topics would be huge. Gary would need a trailer full of built up parts, half built up parts, cutaway parts, tools, fixtures and, oh yes, his famous surface grinder. Gary should rightfully be charging admission to cover all of his time and effort.

I used Gary's write ups on DC forum for re-doing my trailing arms. It didn't save me any time(actually took a huge amount of time), nor money( I probably spent more money since I needed the set-up tools, gauges), running around(for grease, getting shims machined etc), making fixtures(to hold things) and more stress(am I or did I screw something up). But was it enjoyable....absolutely. But I do feel somewhat guilty since Gary did the effort for the write up but didn't get anything from me.
