    Wheel balance weights on 63

I had tires mounted on original steel wheels for my 63.
Wheel weights are on the outside as well as inside of the rim. The outside ones are pretty ugly, and not covered by the hubcaps.
Seems I read that the weights should be placed only on the inside of the wheel. True or false?
Is it possible to balance properly with weights only on the inner side?

    thanks

The OE balance was static only and weights were placed on the inside. Dynamic balance usually requires weights on both sides, and this is what modern off-the-car spin balancers achieve.

Dynmic balance is more critical on modern wheels/tires that are much wider than in '63.

Assuming your tires are within acceptable radial and lateral runnout (which is often not the case with cheap radials or expensive "reproduction" bias-plys) you can probably achieve acceptable behavior by only static balancing them. Excess runnout will cause objectionalbe vibration even if balance is perfect.

I've had this done a couple of times on off-the-car balancers because the tech understood the difference between static and dynamic balance and knew his machine could be set up either way, so it comes down to the machine and how well the tech understands balance and his machine.

Another alternative is to have stick-on weights placed on the narrow horizontal ledge inside the wheel cover. They won't be obvious to casual observation, but would probably be detectable during Flight judging.
