    Corvettes at Carlisle.

    What a great get together.
I just got back from Carlisle and I can"t remember when the weather was so nice.
Lots of vendors (with lots of C1 parts and others) and a very large number of cars from C1s to C6s.
Saw many friends and had a great time.
The Millers put on a great event with much support from the Corvette owners.

    Bruce,

I agree with you completely. Carlisle always has been a class event. Chip and Bill, when Chip was with us, were always on the field making sure everything went smooth. Now it's Lance and Bill. I can remember in 2003 when Chip put together the 54+ car 1953 display watching him on Thursday evening moving garbage cans to make sure the display was accessible to everyone. He was quite a guy and his son sure seems to be also.

Maybe that is where Pirkle has been the last few days when I was trying to get hold of him. Didn't know about this show but sounds interesting just a fer piece to go.

            All;

Dittos on the great weather and another great Carlisle event. We stopped by John Pirkle's booth to drop off a few things... he mentioned that yesterday, 8/28, he and the Mrs. were married 50 years!

Congratulations to them both and many more years of happiness!

I am 2759 miles away, but made the treck last year driving with old racer DOUG HOOPER. What a trip. Chip was one of my best friends, and asked me to help in 1999 with the "RACE CAR REUNION" that he created for every 5 years.

The Miller family has ALWAYS been in a class by itself. And the Corvette hobby is the benefactor.

Lance and Bill III are continuing the tradition. You young guys are very lucky to have an event like this to attend. I went most every year in the late 80's and 90's, and yes the vendor landscape is changing, but the "SPIRIT" is still as strong as ever, and with this new information age of photos and blogs, we all can get instant info on the events, hard to find parts and cars. How did we ever do it in 1974-78 when this Corvette collector world got started.

The most amazing thing about the show are the people. Alright, I lied a little the cars are awesome too. But it is so much fun to talk to the people at the show and at various places off site. We all have the same passion.

                  Hi,
I had a great 3 days at Carlisle too.
The weather was better than could even be hoped for.
It's interesting to meet and spend some time with members of the TDB....Jeff Saltz and Don Lowe in my case. It's encouraging to SEE that others agonizing over the smallest detail still look quite normal!
                  Thinking about next year already!!!!
                  Regards,
                  Alan

As everyone has said the weather was fantastic. Met some old friends.... had my ham & swiss sandwitch with a cup of ham/bean soup (it's a tradition) and saw one nice corvette after another. Unhappily came across this 61 as we came in gate 1. Spoke with the owner and he told me the cause was a short...another reminder to always use those battery cutoffs.

Tom, I missed you at the show but did pick up one of your cards. A few friends have told me when I'm ready to buy my new C6 to look you up...maybe next spring.

                        Re: Corvettes at Carlisle.

I have been a vendor at Corvette Carlisle and other Carlisle events 25 or so years. Yes the weather was the best ever but as long as no tornadoes I don't care about the weather.
With the state of the economy I had no idea what to expect this year although I did go in with a positive attitude.
Well I did the right thing as business was brisk for the vendors around me and none of them had any complaints.
The Millers and family sure know how to put on a show. My thanks go out to them.
It should was nice to see so many NCRS members at the show. One of them bought a nice NOS set of curb feelers in the original dark brown box. Now I am not exactly sure which Corvette the good MD is gonna put those on. Word has it he might put them on one of his farm tractors.
Yeah it was a great show albeit a little too much work for old JD here. With My Marine gone I need to enlist a good helper.
Bruce was at the show looking for '4360 parts.

                          Re: Corvettes at Carlisle.

I would like to follow up on the 61 that caught fire. I CAN SPEAK 1ST HAND.
It happened to me while in a repair shop. The interior caught on fire.
Shop denied it was their fault. I had to sue them.
The reason I am replying is HOW OFTEN I SEE WRONG FIRE EXSTINGHSER
IN THE CAR. I had my car sprayed with the cheap ABC type. Had white
powder everywhere. This powder will then turn to brown rust type coating
within 1 or 2 days. This happens even worse on any bare metal/wiring.
It can only be cleaned by intense brushing.
To avoid this problem and actually put out the fire faster is to purchase
a HALOTRON FIRE EXSTINGHSER. They cost twice the price but they
really do work. I have seen the results. It's a no brainer.......

I enjoyed my 3 days tremendously and was glad to meet so many of you that frequent the TDB. Alan, I especially enjoyed your visits and appreciate the information we shared. Was a pleasure also to meet Tom Hendricks, Pete Lyndall, John Pirkle and others (too many more to mention). I also was glad to see such a strong participation from the Michigan chapter NCRS. Already counting down the days till next year!
