      Thanks Joe.

Can you tell me the equalivent NAPA or Autozone part number. I know I have seen it in the Archives but can't find it.

      Thanks,

Using the 2 inch rule if your idle vacuum is 14" Hg. -B20 or B26 Napa VC1765

        Under 14" Hg. - B28 -Standard Motor Products VC177

Re: 67 L-79 vacuum advance canister

          With or without K-19 I recommend the B20 or B26, which both have the same specs (0 @ 6", 16 @ 12") and it's equivalent to the 355.

Assuming your L-79 has the OE cam, it should idle at about 14" @ 750, so a 12" VAC is as aggressive as necesssary.

The 8" B28, which is equivalent to the 236 is more aggressive than necessary.

Re: 67 L-79 vacuum advance canister

Checked my vacuum at approximately 750 RPM and the motor was pulling between 11 -12". My cam is the Comp Cams Nostalgia Plus L-79. Intake lift is .468, exhaust is .462 duration is intake 239, exhaust 236 lsa is 112*.

The stock L-79 cam per Comp Cams website is .462 lift both for intake and exhaust a duration at 222. The lsa is 114*. All at .50

Given the above info is it normal for my car to be pulling around 11- 12* vacuum at 750 rpm? If so I would expect to leave the B28 vacuum advance that is in the car?

              Thanks,

              Lawrence

I really hate it when guys wait two days and ten posts to finally admit they have an aftermarket cam. You lied! Your engine is not a L-79?

You should stick to the B28 or equivalent for your engine/cam combo.

A correct, reproduction #236 can is available if you want to pay the extra $$. Looks and works as OEM. There is a guy who is making them for the FI guys. Let me know if you want his contact information. I have not met or bought from him, but his reputation is first class. There should be no disappointment.

I beg your pardon...Duke. I did not lie. A lie in my book is when someone knowingly misleads someone on purpose. It has been over four years since I bought that CAM and since this is a hobby for me (no expert) and I am not an engineer as you appear to be...I made a mistake. The CAM is sold as a GM L-79 CAM with modern power per Comp Cams. Check their site.

In any case I very much appreciate your feedback and help.

Re: 67 L-79 vacuum advance canister

It was a tongue in cheek comment. It gets frustrating getting involved in these threads with some issue and then finding out after several posts that the engine has bubba parts.

I don't care what Comp Cams says, unless the camshaft was built to the Chevrolet 3863152 print, it's NOT a L-79 cam - just one of the hundreds of aftermarket grinds out there, and what you have is not even close.

I would only buy a product from Comp Cams if they were the last place on earth where I could get the part, but I'd probably be better off buying a good used cam or valve train part.

Since you're stuck with it, get a B28 VAC if you can find one.

I agree that the CAM is not close. When I chose the CAM I did not know that it was that far off from an L-79. I will say the car runs real well with this build.
As far as Bubba parts go...well.... my car is a 2010 National Top Flight car. I am happy to say the car did real well in Charlotte. So other than the CAM the car is pretty darn correct (95.6%). Honestly, idle quality is not much different than a 222 duration L-79 CAM IMO. When I chose that CAM I was just trying to get a modern L-79 CAM, but now I now there is a variation.

I have a B28 and will go from there.

Thanks again for the feedback, and I will have more questions for you I am sure...I will be sure to mention if Bubba is involved

                          Lawrence,

How many miles do you drive your car, on average, per year?

Always test the VAC with Mityvac. Many stamped and sold B28's (236's) are not what they seem. They don't meet specs. If you are only looking for one to pass visual inspection, fine. But, if you want one that performs correctly, check it first. I have had to send several back to vendors (large parts houses). I have had better luck getting them (or by recommendations) from fellow NCRS members here on the board.
