Water pump casting number 1957 corvette

Does anyone know the correct casting number for the water pump used on the 1957 275HP 283CI engine? Rebuilding my engine and want to be sure that I get the right part.

A 275 hp 283 was a very "rare bird" for 1957 since they made a total of "0" of them. However, I expect that you mean a 270 hp 283.

If so, the waterpump casting was GM #3736493. Actually, all 1957 Corvettes used this casting for the waterpump. Be sure to get one WITHOUT reinforcing ribs on the driver side of the pump. Such pumps were Tonawanda castings and were not used on Corvette engines.

Joe...I finally got to the old pump on my present engine. It is casting number 3859326. Would you happen to know what engine that belongs to? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, the 3859326 casting was used for Corvette small blocks with aluminum intake manifolds from 1965-1967. Some say it was used for 1963-64 Corvette small blocks with aluminum manifolds, too. I doubt it but it was certainly not used prior to the 1963 model year.

The 3859326 was also used for SERVICE waterpumps for many years, continuing at least to the mid 80's. It has provisions for both internal and external bypass. For SERVICE, whichever bypass was not used for a particular small block was plugged with parts supplied with the SERVICE pump.
