C2 gas tank cad plating/ powder coating rims

    I have 2 questions,
I am doing a frame up on my 63 and 67 and my cad plater said no gas tanks. What do you guys do to get the old tank looking new.
Also is it a sin to powder coat your rally rims silver and if not what silver do you use or what paint shall I use. I am not restricted to a spray can I will spray a 2 part if correct.

Tanks were not cad/zinc plated. They were galvanized.

    Essentially you have two choices:

    (1) Clean the inside + outside of your tank as best you can and it there is visible exterior deterioration, lose a few points on condition.

    (2) Buy a replacement/reproduction gas tank (Quanta) and get full condition points but perhaps lose a few on the originality side of the ledger.

They were not cad or galvanized, they were tern plated steel. This is sheet steel hot dipped with a coating of a lead-tin alloy. The tern alloy is specified in thicknesses based on the weight of tern coating per square foot of sheet metal. Tern plate is often used for making gasoline tanks for automobiles.

        Dom -

I'd just replace it with a Quanta tank with the O.L. Anderson logo. I wouldn't trust a 50-year-old gas tank, especially if you have a water heater in your garage.
