'56 - Correct Red for Engine in Spray Form?

I need to spray an intake manifold and thermostat housing with the correct color red for my 1956 engine. My valve covers, block, oil pan, generator bracket, etc. are all original red paint and I'm hoping for a very close match.

I'm hoping to find something in rattle can form than is suitable for this use.

Suggestions? I'm sure you guys know exactly what brand, type, and color code to use after you last restoration of a 55/56....

    Thanks!

Bill Hirsch advertises in Hemmings (www.hemmings.com --IIRC) spray cans. I have not seen the color but he distinguishes between the red and orange. If you find the correct color most aut paint stores can put in a spray can for you.

Is your original red more of a fire engine red or closer to a purple-ish/mauve tint to the red? The Bill Hirsch paint is kind of a funky mauve-ish color but they claim that it is original. I used it on my 56 and am happy with it. I guess it could be tough to tell over time what it could have faded to from the original color. It's hard to match 50+ year old paint and get it right so that you can't tell.

Hey, a new idea!....faded original paint in a spray can! It could work....and I'd be rich! Not like now...

I forgot to mention that if you want me to send you a couple of pictures of how my engine turned out with the Bill Hirsch '56 Chev red engine paint, I can e-mail them to you. Let me know.

My original Red sure doesn't seem to have a hint of any other color. I'll have to look more closely in direct sunlight to tell before I order.

Yes pictures would be GREAT! alexclaytor@gmail.com

            Thanks!

Ok I just order 2 cans from http://www.hirschauto.com

Upon inspecting the red on my original parts more closely, I can see that in thick or thin places and overspray spots that it really does seem to have a slight light purple-esk slight undertone to it.

              Thanks guys!

Alexander, you will be fine with the red Hirsch paint you just ordered. I restored 1956 VIN 3241 about five years ago and never received either a deduct or comment on the shade of red. Car received BG, Top Flight and Triple Crown with all scores within 97% of total available. Good luck.

BTW- I don't own the car anymore but have some pictures if still interested. Contact me on my private email.

I,ve been out of town a couple of weeks and just now saw your post. I would have to agree with Roy- Ford or International tractor red is much closer. Bill Hirsh paint looks like original with oil stain on it--much to mauve! Tractor paint is what I used to match the original red on my engine 30 years ago.
