68 Seat Backs
Does anyone know of anybody that reconditions the old seat backs? My early OM 68 backs are in need of restoration. The new ones on the market today are not the same as the old ones.

O.K. not just 68 seat backs. How about any plastic repair?

To my knowledge there is NO fool proof method for restoring injection molded plastic parts. You can use glue to repair cracks. Or, if you've got access to a plastics EXPERT, such can be sonically welded. But, that's a rare exception!
The BIG rub is trying to repair/hide scratches in the exterior cosmetic surface. The mold was textured (acid splattered) to create its eye appealing surface bumps. Few mold makers can guarantee a 100% correct match when a given tool is repaired and/or duplicated.
So, worn surface texture is almost always visible to a discerning judge. That creates the horns of a dilemma issue when you weigh the alternative of repairing/restoring your original seat backs vs. buying/installing reproductions. Essentially, did you want your point loss on the Originality side of the ledger or the Condition side?Comment

Good points, I guess I like them origional over the repop with eye appeal. Kind of like us old timers, the age has character. Would like to know how to get them back to as best as possible though.Comment
