C2 Air Conditioner flex hose replacement

I am replacing the flexible ducts in my 66 Air car. Reviewing a 35+ year old assembly manual it appears as if the flexible connector from the heat/air exchange box that goes to the center dash outlet and on to the right side outlet must be cut to allow the Air Cond Pull cable to exit the center of the inlet for the center dash outlet. It would appear that there is potential for the loss of air flow with this cut. You would have to have one to understand that description ;-)

First am I looking at this correctly and second is my assumed air loss correct and third is there an acceptable fix?

    Thanks in advance
