    C-1 1961 door hinges

I am getting ready to mount the doors back onto the body on my 1961. I have the hinges off and degreased. I have decided to lightly media blast them and then finish them to factory condition. The hinges seem to be painted semi-gloss black. Is this a correct assumption?

    Thanks for any information!

    Ray,

I thought the hinges were painted body color?

I have Body Shop photos from 1959 and from the midyear era that clearly show the hinges were painted (or primed) black when they were installed. They got full coverage of body color later in the Paint Shop.

Thanks! The hinges were body color on the face and a little over spray on the innert part of the hinge. The ballance was rust and black paint. I will paint them smei-gloss black and then install the doors prior to gray primer and body color.

Ray make sure whatever black paint you use on the hinges is going to be compatible with your prime and paint formula.

            Hi! Joe

I am using all PPG products. I will use a reduced DP primer and then a very thin coat of black. I do not want a heavy build up of paint on the hinge.

I primed/sealed the body a week ago using DP primer. PPG now suggest that you wait at least a week prior to applying additional primers or top coats. They want the DP solvents to have time to escape from the fiberglass. Because of the one week time between coats, DP sanding is required to ensure good adhesion for the next paint process. I hope to apply the K-36 high build primer by Friday and then the Fawn lacquer next week.

Good to hear from you Joe!
