Am finishing up engine rebuild. Harmonic balancer rubber is cracked / brittle. I am looking for least expensive solution that will function properly and look correct. Does anyone recommend rebuild vs buy new? If new, is GM replacement (not sure if they even have a replacement) any better or worse than calling local parts store? thanks, Steve

There are quite a few options for a new balancer:
GM #10216339------about $250, GM list
NAPA #BK6005209----about $75
Dorman #594010------about $50
The NAPA and Dorman pieces might be Chinese-manufactured, but that does not necessarily make them bad.
I think that any of the above will, once installed on the engine, be pretty much undetectable from original.
I don't know what a rebuild would cost for yours. Contact The Damper Dudes or Damper Doc, both located in northern California (Redding or thereabouts, I think). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
