    66 L79 Throttle Linkage

I have a 66 L79 and am in the process of replacing the entire throttle linkage from the firewall forward.

My problem is the new piece coming up from the tunnel doesn't seem to be adjusted far enough back on full pedal throttle. I have loosened the bolt and been able to get it a little further back.

My ultimate question is if someone can share a picture (with the air filter removed) that shows the throttle in idle position. Mine when set to 700rpm idle, has the throttle lever touching the intake manifold.

In order to achieve full throttle, I had to bend the throttle rod to shorten it. This just doesn't seem right.

    Any pics/guidance would be appreciated.

    Todd -

Your throttle rod should have a threaded swivel where it connects to the throttle lever on the firewall - that's where the adjustment is made (instead of bending it to shorten it). At idle, the top end of the firewall throttle lever should be back inside the top ignition shield (see photo below).

If you have the correct parts, possibly the rod from the pedal to the base of the lever is bent. The adjustment procedure is in your Assembly Manual in UPC 6, sheet D3.

      Thanks John,

Looking at the UPC 6 D3...it appears I need to be able to have the lever touch the firewall(dash panel) at point x. With no padding under the carpet and the bolt loosened to allow a little play...I am still about 3/4" away from touching. Therefore I am guessing I have a bent accelerator rod.

I will look at replacing that next.

      Thanks as always.
