    72 LT1 brake calipers

I'am trying to find out what are the correct casting numbers for all four calipers and what should the original finish be? Thanks Ron

the calipers are the same as any 72 corvette. they are painted black all except the machined places. in other words they were machined after they were painted.

        Ron------

        front outer----GM #5452273

        front inner-----GM #5452270

        rear outer------GM #5452284

        rear inner------GM #5452281

Keep in mind, though, that these are CASTING numbers, and NOT caliper HALF PART NUMBERS. The caliper halves were machined differently for different positions. For example, the front outers are the same for both sides but the front inners, although both of the same casting number, are differently machined and have different finished part numbers. Finished part numbers appear nowhere on the caliper halves.

            Hi Joe,
When looking at your caliper half CASTING numbers a thought came to mind concerning the caliper half PART numbers.
Do the caliper half PART numbers in any way follow the usual GM right (even digit), left (odd digit), last digit part number scheme?
            Regards,
            Alan

I believe Art Armstrong once taught us there was no overt attempt to differentiate RH vs. LH by odd/even numbering and that it was typically a 'coincidence' in how PN's were assigned to new drawings...
