    Title search in Mass.

Hello all....Has anyone had any luck with title searches in the State of Mass. I have a 1978 Silver Anniversary car purchased new from Buzzard's Bay Garage, Buzzards Bay, Mass. I have spoken with the former dealership owner, Joe Lobretto, but he has had no luck yet tracking down any of the original paperwork.

Can GM help? Can my local service department do a search on the VIN for any old warranty work information?

Anyone have any Mass DMV contacts?

    Thanks very much, Jim

    Jim,
As a life long Massachusetts resident I can tell you the RMV is virtually impossible to deal with. Try Bill Gould at Auto Ancestry. He lives in Mass. and maybe he can assist you. His contact information is in the Driveline.
    Good Luck with it.

Jim, around that Era alot of the smaller auto dealers were not computerized yet, So alot of the the paper work your looking for will be hand written repair orders, storage of this repair orders were discarded after about 5 years. You would have better luck tracing the prev. owners.

As Dave says here is Mass. the RMV people are not the frenidliest bunch of people, understaffed and I would bet we have the longest lines in the US. for waiting to get your lic. renew or register your new car.Its take a number and have a seat. I almost forgot do not walk in at lunch time.

Jim, Is that the same car that sat in the dealership's showroom for many years? I live in the next town over and remember a Corvette, either a Pace Car or Anniversary model, that sat there for years.

Mass is the black hole as far as dealing with the RMV.

Hey thanks everyone for the replies, unfortunately though, not necessarily the answer I was looking for. Paul, the car you're referring to is the 1978 Pace car. Joe Lobretto sent me an old picture of him standing next to the Pacer inside the dealership. Joe still has the car, still on MSO, never titled, never driven!

Joe said he thought he sold two Silver Anniversary Vettes in 1978, one he may have driven himself, and one he thought he sold to a Navy Commander....maybe my car. Mine's an Anniversary paint/saffron interior, radio delete/non-air, L-82 4-speed, so maybe someone will remember it!

          I'll keep trying!

            Jim,
I feel your pain. I bought my 1970 off ebay in 2005 from a guy in Foxboro, Mass. At the time, I neglected to get any previous owner history from him. I tried going through the Mass DMV and got nowhere.

Somebody mentioned Bill Gould. I used him, and he came up with a name for me, but the guy will not return my calls or letters. None-the-less, Bill might be able to help you. I think he advertises in the Driveline.

By the way, does anybody recall a 1970 Bridgehampton blue big block convertible around the Foxboro area, prior to 2005?
            Marc

For Illinois residents info- I have done title searches in illinois in years past with good results. However, last year I tried it on my '64 fuel car. I got back 3 titles and was excited until i looked closely and found that they had taken a magic marker and crossed through all the names, addresses and dates! and for this they charged me $3.50 per title! I called and they said the cross-outs were due to privacy laws. I offer this as I fear other states will follow this lead so if you elect to try a title search don't get your hopes up.

Pretty much you can expect they line out the names nowadays from every state.
